On the registration page, there is a clear checkbox stating: “I agree to receive transactional SMS from DriveBetter for account verification and ride updates. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt-out.” We also have a link to our Terms and Privacy Policy at the point of opt-in.

4. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide and that we generate in order to operate the Service:

  • Account and profile: Name, email address, phone number, password (stored in hashed form), birth date (if provided), and role (e.g., driver, customer, administrator).
  • Verification and security: We send and verify one-time codes (OTP) via SMS (using Twilio) and via email for account verification, phone and email verification, and password reset. We may store temporary tokens for these purposes.
  • Ride and dispatch data: Ride details (pickup/drop-off, times, status, notes), assignment of drivers to rides, customer and group associations, and related communications.
  • Geolocation and location data: We use geolocation and location information (e.g., addresses, coordinates) for rides, place search, and maps within the Service. Location is used only as needed to provide the Service.
  • Communications between users: Users communicate with each other through the platform (e.g., in relation to rides and dispatch). We may process and store such communications as necessary to operate the Service.
  • Mobile / push notifications: We allow users to subscribe to mobile (push) notifications. If you opt in, we store subscription data and optional, privacy-conscious device information (e.g., device type, browser, OS) to deliver notifications.
  • Support and communications: Messages and other content you send through in-app support or chat features.
  • Technical and usage data: When you use our website or app we may use cookies and local storage (e.g., for authentication tokens and preferences). We may also receive log data such as IP address, browser type, and access times from our hosting and infrastructure providers.

5. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve the DriveBetter platform (dispatch, rides, assignments, and related features).
  • Authenticate you and manage your account (including verification via email and SMS).
  • Match and facilitate communication between drivers, customers, and administrators as part of the dispatch and ride process.
  • Send you transactional and service-related messages via Twilio (SMS OTP), email (e.g., SendGrid for OTP, password reset, account verification), and in-app notifications.
  • Send push notifications if you have opted in.
  • Respond to support requests and enforce our terms and policies.
  • Comply with applicable law and protect our rights and the safety of users.

6. Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in these circumstances:

  • Service providers: We use third-party services that process data on our behalf, including for hosting (e.g., database and servers), email (e.g., SendGrid—for OTP, password reset, account verification), SMS (e.g., Twilio—for OTP and account verification), maps and place search (e.g., Google Maps/Places, MapTiler), authentication (e.g., Google OAuth), and analytics or error reporting. These providers are contractually or legally required to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.
  • Other users of the Service: As necessary for the dispatch and ride process (e.g., drivers and customers see relevant ride and contact information; administrators see data needed to manage the platform).
  • Legal and safety: When required by law, or to protect our or others’ rights, safety, or property.

7. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and comply with legal obligations. Verification and temporary tokens are deleted or invalidated after use or after a short expiry period. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the address above.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (e.g., HTTPS), hashed passwords, secure token handling, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we encourage you to use a strong password and to keep your login details private.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access and receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct or update inaccurate personal information (you can do much of this in your account settings).
  • Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal and operational requirements.
  • Opt out of marketing communications (we do not sell your data; you can opt out of non-essential emails).
  • Withdraw consent where we rely on consent for processing.

You cannot opt out of one-time codes (OTP), password reset, or account verification messages sent by email or SMS; these are required for security and account access. For ways to opt out of other communications, see our Terms and Conditions.

If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know, delete, and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA. To exercise your rights, contact us using the details in Section 2. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

10. Platform Use, Responsibility and Support

We provide the DriveBetter platform as a service. We are not responsible for whatever occurs between or among users on the platform or as a result of using the Service. We allow users to subscribe to mobile notifications; we are not responsible for the content or functionality of those notifications. If you are a user or non-user and have any issues, disputes, or concerns, you must raise a support request and contact us. For all platform and support matters, contact: admin@drivebetter.co.

11. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to individuals under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

12. International Use and Illinois / USA

DriveBetter is offered in the United States with a focus on Illinois. Our systems and service providers may store or process data in the United States or other countries. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in those locations, subject to applicable law.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
